MONTGOMERY is a clothing line and boutique owned and operated by Montgomery Harris.  She opened her first brick and mortar business as an independent designer in Soho under the corporate name, Jolinda, Inc. in 1999.  In the spring of 2003, she joined the emerging Harlem Renaissance as THE HOUSE OF MONTGOMERY and relocated to 2312 Adam Clayton Powell, Jr. Blvd., on the corner of 136th Street.

THE HOUSE OF MONTGOMERY’S distinctive designs enjoy a large following in major fashion capitals around the globe including Los Angeles, Tokyo, Paris, London and New York.

Montgomery’s designs have also been featured in several fashion publications, including Vogue, Vanity Fair and InStyle.

The American legacy is the raison d’etre for this fashion forward designer.   Montgomery received first hand experience of “Southern Charm” and the “Southern Belle” esthetic during her childhood in Birmingham, AL.  “Basically, it’s all Southern, my grandmother’s style, with distinct elements of the multicultural influences of living in New York,” Montgomery revealed in an interview with Vogue Magazine.  After, moving with her family to New York City, she developed a personal style that has become her signature, the innovative mixture of couture with Americana.

Montgomery is the recipient of the 1995 Vidal Sassoon Award for Style and the 1999 Absolut Vodka Style Award.  Her designs are worn by supermodels Iman and Alek Wek , rock star Sting, singers Diana Ross, Brandy, Erika Badu, socialites, movie stars, even Oprah.

André Leon Talley, Vogue Magazine style editor wrote in his monthly Style Fax column, “With $15,000 she won in a Vidal Sassoon design show, she took off”.  “She’s now been working under her own name for five years and has dressed everyone from Sting (in her toadskin-printshirt) to Oprah and Diana Ross”.  In the article Montgomery stated, “I’m still struggling and I have no salary in order to keep my company going.  The one thing that I have learned is to be resourceful on a shoestring budget.  I think fashion in general needs a transfusion of that special something else, another alternative.  That’s what I’m trying to give”.

MONTGOMERY remains a self funded entity and as her list of patrons grow, Ms. Harris proves that her company stands for innovation, vision and integrity for our American Heritage.
